Certificates are renewed more often now

Industry rules limit every public certificate to a maximum of 200 days, and to 100 days from March 2027. A certificate bought for a year has to be reissued and installed again during the year — we remind you and help with each reissue. On our hosting plans the free certificate renews automatically, so most hosting customers do not need a paid one.

Common questions about paid SSL certificates.

Yes — every APEX and web hosting plan includes a free Let’s Encrypt certificate that is issued and renewed automatically. You only need a paid certificate if you need organisation validation, a wildcard for your own server, or a certificate from a commercial authority.

DV (Domain Validation) confirms that you control the domain and is issued in minutes. OV (Organisation Validation) also verifies your registered company, and its name appears in the certificate details. EV (Extended Validation) adds the strictest checks on the organisation. All three use the same encryption.

A wildcard certificate for *.yourdomain.com covers your main domain and every first-level subdomain, such as www, app or shop. It does not cover deeper levels such as app.eu.yourdomain.com.

No — the encryption is the same. Paid OV and EV certificates also confirm who owns the website, which some banks, partners and public tenders require.

For a single website, Positive SSL is enough. Use Wildcard to cover all subdomains. Choose OV or EV when a bank, partner or tender asks for organisation validation. Not sure? Ask us before you order.
