Unlock your domain and get its authorization (EPP) code from the client area, so you can move the domain to another registrar whenever you want.
Your domain, your choice
You can move a domain registered with APEX HostMate to another registrar at any time. Everything you need is in the client area — there is no need to contact us.
Steps
- Sign in to the client area, open Domains and select your domain.
- Under Protection, turn off Registrar Lock (Blocks transfers to another registrar).
- Go to Auth (EPP) Code and click Get code. The code is fetched live from the registrar.
- Click Copy.
- Start the transfer at your new registrar and paste the code when asked.
These steps are also listed in the Transfer to Another Registrar section of your domain's page.
Things to know
- The 60-day rule. Registries do not allow a transfer within 60 days of registration or a previous transfer.
- Keep the code private. Anyone with your EPP code and an unlocked domain can start a transfer.
- Turn auto-renew off in your domain's settings if you do not want it renewed here while the transfer is in progress.
- DNS. If your domain uses our nameservers, set up your DNS records at the new provider before switching, so your website and email keep working.
Tip: Changed your mind? Turn Registrar Lock back on to block any transfer.
Troubleshooting
If you see Could not retrieve an authorization code right now, wait a minute and try again. If it keeps failing, open a ticket in the Domains department.
