Move a domain from another registrar to APEX HostMate: what to prepare at your current registrar, how to order the transfer, and how long it takes.
Before you start
At your current registrar, make sure that:
- The domain is unlocked. Turn off the registrar or transfer lock.
- You have the authorization code (also called the EPP code or Auth code).
- The domain is more than 60 days old, and was not transferred in the last 60 days. Registries block transfers inside this period.
- The domain has not expired. Renew it first if it is close to its expiry date.
- You can receive email at the owner's address, in case the registry sends a confirmation.
Order the transfer
- Go to Domain Transfer and enter your domain, or start a new order in the client area and choose to transfer a domain.
- Enter the authorization code when asked.
- Complete the order and pay the invoice.
Once the payment is confirmed, we submit the transfer to the registry.
What happens next
- Most transfers complete within 5 to 7 days. The previous registrar may approve sooner.
- Your website and email keep working during the transfer, as long as your DNS settings do not change.
- For most domain endings, a successful transfer adds one year to your registration, without losing the time you already had.
When the transfer is complete, the domain appears under Domains in your client area.
