Manage DNS records for your domain

Last reviewed: October 4, 2026 Applies to: Domains 2 min read

Add, edit and remove DNS records for a domain registered with APEX HostMate, set up redirects, and switch between our nameservers and your own.

Before you start

DNS records you add in the client area only work while your domain uses APEX HostMate's nameservers:

  • ns1.apexhostmate.com
  • ns2.apexhostmate.com

You can check and change this in the domain's Nameservers section (see below).

Add a DNS record

  1. Sign in to the client area and open Domains.
  2. Select your domain and go to DNS Records.
  3. Click Add DNS record.
  4. Choose the Type, then fill in Name, Value and, for MX and SRV records, Priority.
  5. Click Add Record. The record appears in the list of active records.

To change or remove a record, use the edit or delete option next to it in the list.

Record types

Type Use it for Example value
A Point a name to an IPv4 address 203.0.113.10
AAAA Point a name to an IPv6 address 2001:db8::10
CNAME Make a name an alias of another host name myapp.apexhostmate.com
MX Route email to a mail server (with a priority) mail.example.com
TXT Verification and email security (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) v=spf1 include:example.com ~all
NS Delegate a subdomain to other nameservers ns1.example.net
SRV Services that need a host and port depends on the service
RDR — Redirect Send visitors of a name to another URL https://www.example.com

Note: The RDR — Redirect type sends visitors to the URL you enter, and HTTPS for it is set up automatically. Like all records here, it requires our nameservers.

Use our nameservers, or your own

In the domain's Nameservers section:

  • Use Default Nameservers — your domain uses APEX HostMate's nameservers, and the DNS records you manage here are live. This is the simplest choice.
  • Custom Nameservers — choose this if your DNS is managed elsewhere, such as Cloudflare. Enter up to four nameservers and click Save Nameservers.

Warning: With custom nameservers, DNS records in our client area have no effect. Make all changes at your other DNS provider instead.

How long do changes take?

New or changed records usually work within minutes, but some networks keep old answers until they expire. A change of nameservers can take up to 24–48 hours to reach everyone.
