Reset the root password of your Cloud VPS

Last reviewed: October 4, 2026 Applies to: Cloud VPS 1 min read

Generate a new root password for your Cloud VPS from the client area when you have lost the old one or the password shows as not set.

Reset the password

  1. Sign in to the client area, open Services and select your Cloud VPS.
  2. Under Quick actions, click Reset root password.
  3. Confirm the message Reset root password? Your current password will no longer work.
  4. The new password appears under Root Password on the Overview tab. Click Show or Copy.

Warning: The old password stops working immediately. Update it anywhere you have saved it.

Things to know

  • For security, you can reset the password up to 3 times per hour.
  • The server must be running for the reset to work. Check the status on the Overview tab.
  • If you log in with SSH keys, they keep working — only the password changes.

If the reset does not help

If the server is not reachable or does not accept the new password, use Rescue Mode to repair it, or open a support ticket.
