Change your APEX sign-in password or your database password, manage other users in your workspace, and what to do if you forget a password.
When your service is set up, your APEX sign-in and your database user get the same password — the one shown under Password in the client area.
After that they are separate:
| If you change… | It affects… | It does not affect… |
|---|---|---|
| Your APEX password | Signing in to APEX | SQL Developer and other database tools |
| Your database password | SQL Developer, SQLcl, Toad and your own applications that connect directly | Signing in to APEX |
Note: The client area always shows the original password. Once you change a password yourself, store the new one safely, for example in a password manager.
You are the administrator of your workspace, so you can change it yourself:
As workspace administrator, you can add developers and end users and reset their passwords in Administration → Manage Users and Groups.
In SQL Developer: right-click your connection and choose Reset Password…, then enter the current and the new password.
With SQL (in SQL Developer or SQLcl):
ALTER USER your_schema IDENTIFIED BY "NewStrongPassword#2026" REPLACE "CurrentPassword";
Replace your_schema with your workspace name. Use a strong password with upper and lower case letters, numbers and a symbol.
Warning: If an application or script connects to the database with the old password, update it straight away — otherwise it stops working.
| Forgotten | What to do |
|---|---|
| APEX password, but you still know the database password | Ask another workspace administrator to reset it, or open a support ticket. |
| Database password, and you have not changed it | It is still the one shown in the client area. |
| A password you changed yourself | Open a support ticket from your account. We will verify the request and reset it for you. |
