Move your APEX application, database objects and data from apex.oracle.com to APEX HostMate, step by step — or let our team migrate it for you, free.
Why move
apex.oracle.com is a free service meant for learning and trying out APEX, not for running production applications. Moving to APEX HostMate gives you a managed production environment with your own domain, daily backups and support.
Tip: Free migration is included with every plan. If you prefer, open a support ticket and our team will move your application for you.
Overview
A migration has four parts:
- Export the application.
- Export your database objects (tables, views, packages and so on).
- Export your data.
- Recreate everything in your APEX HostMate workspace and test it.
apex.oracle.com does not allow direct database connections, so all exports are done from inside APEX.
Step 1 — Export the application
On apex.oracle.com, open App Builder, select the application, choose Export / Import → Export, and download the file. Details are in Export and import an APEX application.
Step 2 — Export your database objects
- On apex.oracle.com, open SQL Workshop → Utilities → Generate DDL.
- Select your schema and the object types you use, such as tables, views, sequences, packages, procedures, functions and triggers.
- Generate the script and save it to a file.
Step 3 — Export your data
For each table with data you need, open SQL Workshop → Utilities → Data Workshop → Data Unload, choose the table and download the data, for example as CSV.
Note: For many tables, it is often quicker to ask us to migrate the data for you.
Step 4 — Rebuild in APEX HostMate
- Create the objects: in your APEX HostMate workspace, open SQL Workshop → SQL Scripts, upload the DDL file from step 2 and run it. Review any errors — objects that depend on each other sometimes need a second run.
- Load the data: open SQL Workshop → Utilities → Data Workshop → Load Data and load each file into its table. You can also use SQL Developer — see How to connect to your schema with SQL Developer.
- Import the application: open App Builder → Import and import the file from step 1, with your APEX HostMate schema as the Parsing Schema.
Step 5 — Test and finish
- Run the application and test the main pages and processes.
- Re-enter any passwords or API keys stored in Web Credentials, because secrets are not exported.
- Update links or REST endpoints that pointed to apex.oracle.com.
- When everything works, point your own domain to your new service — see Manage DNS records for your domain.
Warning: Keep your apex.oracle.com workspace until you have tested everything on APEX HostMate. Only then remove the old copy.
